Areyvut Bnai Mitzvah Essay Contest - 2006
CALLING ALL BNAI MITZVAH, PAST & PRESENT!

We invite you to take part in Areyvut’s second Bnai Mitzvah Essay Contest! Areyvut is looking for ideas to share with pre-Bnai Mitzvah students who would like to add to their celebrations by helping others, but we need YOUR help.

We would like to know:
How did you make (or how are you making) the values of chesed, tzedakah and tikkun olam an important part of your Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration?
Why did you choose to do a service project?
Why did you choose THIS project?
How did (or will) your project impact your Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration?
If you have already celebrated your Bar/Bat Mitzvah, how have you continued your project since then?
What made you decide to choose the project that you did?


Prizes: 1st Prize: The winner will be invited to participate on a panel to discuss their project, receive a $180 Giving CertificateTM to be redeemed through Tzedakah, Inc. (www.just-tzedakah.org) and will also receive a digital camera or an iPod.

2nd Prize: A $100 gift certificate to The Jewish Publication Society (www.jewishpub.org).

3rd Prize: A $50 gift certificate to Judaica Press (www.judaicapress.com) or Free Spirit Publishing (www.freespirit.com). All winning essays will be posted on the Areyvut website (under the Areyvut in Action section) in January and will remain posted throughout the year.

Contest Guidelines: Eligibility: You must be between the ages of 12-15 to enter

Format: Your essay must be between 250-750 words. It must be typed and double spaced. Please DO NOT put your name on your essay. Only put your name on the cover sheet.

Cover Sheet.Either e-mail the cover sheet and essay to projects@areyvut.org OR mail them to Areyvut at 1001 Avenue of the Americas, Suite 1208, New York, NY 10018.

Deadline: Areyvut must receive all essays by Dec 8, 2005.

Judges: Essays will be judged by a panel of Areyvut staff, Areyvut board members and outside experts. Winners will be chosen based on how well a project is described, how well its impact is described, and the uniqueness of the project and the all-around quality of the essay.

Decision: Winners will be notified by December 20, 2005.
